Lizzie Durby was self educated but regardless of her lack of formal education she was always open to new ideas. Learning was integral to her life whether it was teaching herself to macrame or finding out more about foreign places. She was non-biased and loving in her dealing with all she met. When others wish to emulate a person's attitude it indicates a successful life. She would be proud to have her name recognized in some small way at Iowa State.
