Eileen Groene was born near West Point, Iowa in 1925 and graduated from St. Mary's High School. Raised on a farm, she grew up helping her parents and five siblings with farm chores before and after school. Her father died when she was fourteen. Through cooperative efforts with her mother, brother and sisters the family managed to keep ownership of the farm through the depression of the 1930's.

She married our father Victor Peitz in 1948 and together they raised four children. They rented and later purchased a farm near Houghton, Iowa not far from their birthplaces. We children enjoyed the wholesome experiences of being close to nature, knowing all of our relatives and feeling part of a rural community. Our mother's priorities in life have been her immediate and extended family.

She consistently provided guidance and encouragement to us as children. Through her model and teachings she has taught us responsibility, respect, commitment and love. She has always believed in the value of education. Consequently all four of us have college degrees; three being bachelor's degrees from Iowa State University. As adults we are grateful to her for what she has done for us and for what she continues to do for us.

We are proud to recognize our mother in this Roll of Honor. Gregory Peitz, Donna Peitz Lewis, Julianne Peitz Svingen, & Michelle Peitz Jordan
