Lula M. (Harris) Kruse was born and raised in Postville, Iowa. Being the tenth of twelve children Lula's opportunities to further her education after high school graduation were very limited. She married Marvin L. Kruse and moved to Luana, Iowa where she still resides.

Lula became a homemaker and mother of three children Michael Shelley and Amy. Educating her children was a high priority from the onset. Her encouragement to learn was never ending and her active participation in their education was demonstrated by her involvement in their many activities. She instilled the desire and need to attend college in each of her children.

Her willingness for self-sacrifice allowed all of her children to attend Iowa State University respectively for some segment of their college education. Lula continues to make heavy investments of time and energy to her family friends and community. Her attitude and abilities are greatly appreciated by all who know her.

She remains an active participant in the "Dollars for Scholars" fund-raiser in her local community. Lula has also given over twenty-five years of service to the American Cancer Society. She is an extremely hard-working woman with a deep sense of responsibility to her family.

Lula M. Kruse is most worthy to be honored in the PLAZA OF HEROINES.
