Marian L. (Olson) Simington, 1915-1993, Iowa State Teachers College, 1936.

Teacher, wife of one, mother of five, grandmother of eleven, rosemaler. Marian's Grandfather, Peter Chrisenson, migrated from Denmark to Ames, Iowa in 1869 and worked on the college farm for two years. He and another farm worker lived in the attic of the Farm House which at that time was the home of the college president A. B. Welsh.

Marian had two uncles who were long time teachers at Iowa State. Martin Mortensen was with the Dairy Industry Department from 1909 thru 1938 and served as head of that department during the latter part of his tenure. Oscar A. Olson taught Mechanical Drawing at Iowa State from 1913 to 1948 and served as head of that department during the latter part of his tenure.

Marian's father, N. C. Olson, graduated from the Dairy Industry Department's butter making short course.

Marian's husband, Wayne J. Simington, graduated from Iowa State in Animal Husbandry in 1938. Thank you for the opportunity to participate in the Plaza of Heroes project.
