Born: 4 January 1888 Zearing Iowa Died: 16 May 1978 Indianola, Iowa Married: Albin N. (Ab) Heggen (ISU 1910) 27 November 1913 My grandparents met when they were students at East High School in Des Moines. After they were married they moved to a farm in Warren County and with the exception of a few years in Nebraska always lived in or near Des Moines. When we would go to the farm to visit we received the warmest welcome one could imagine. It didn't matter if we had been there the day before or the month before the welcome was always the same. Once there the grandchildren were almost made to feel as if they were part of the farm which was very important to my grandmother.
There was always something that needed to be done; small chores for small children that never interferred with the fun of being at the farm. In later years as my grandfather's sight failed she became more and more involved with the operation of the farm; record keeping bookwork correspondence etc. When he could no longer drive she would take him wherever he needed to go. Through her efforts they were able to live at the farm for many years.
