Doris Gail Dodge Maulsby (February 1, 1928 - June 4, 1966) was born in Charles City, Iowa, the youngest child of Herbert and Gail (Root) Dodge. She lived in Charles City all her life and married Clifford F. Maulsby in 1944. To this union three children were born in three years: Michael W. Maulsby, Patricia Gail Maulsby Monroe and Thomas F. Maulsby. After the birth of her children, she joined the Floyd County Mutual Insurance Company as a clerical worker.

She learned the insurance business and became an agent and an officer in the company. She was a highly respected member of the Charles City business community. Although her formal education ended prior to graduation from high school, she later completed her high school equivalency degree. Her example of what hard work and desire can accomplish has been an inspiration for her children, who wish to honor her memory in the Carrie Chapman Catt Plaza of Heroines.

Mrs. Maulsby, along with her mother and one of her sisters, was tragically killed in an automobile accident shortly after her youngest son graduated from high school. She never knew her six grandchildren, nor they her, but it is in her memory that two of them are named.

Doris Gail Dodge Maulsby is being remembered by her family: Clifford F. Maulsby, retired factory worker, Charles City, Iowa; Michael Maulsby, businessman, Mason City, Iowa and his family (spouse Janice and children Scott, Grant and Tricia); Patricia Monroe, ISU staff Ames, Iowa and her daughter (Marnie Gail); and Thomas Maulsby, businessman, Charles City, Iowa and his family (spouse Linda and children Kimberly, Doris and Amanda).
