Pi Beta Phi Woods Sisters
Charline Woods Reese was a graduate of Ames High School and from Iowa State College in 1925. She was a member of Iowa Gamma of Pi Beta Phi. She attended Prince Business School in Boston Massachusetts and taught in Miss Farmer's School of Cookery. She practiced her institutional management (her major) skills in restaurant management in that city. After her marriage to Eldridge Reese they moved to Pacific Palisades California where she was very active in community garden work as a volunteer. Her husband was active in truck leasing business. They had one son David Woods Weston who preceded his mother in death by eight months in 1994.
Margaret Woods Goeppinger graduated from Ames High in the class of 1931 and from Iowa State College in 1935. She was the daughter of Lulu Hall and Charles Manford Woods of Ames. When her brother Manford was ready for college the family moved from Los Angeles California to Ames for Charles was of the class of 1892 and he wanted his four children to graduate from his alma mater which they did. After college Marnie as she was called married Walter Goeppinger of Boone where they continued to live. They had two sons Hans and Neil both of whom like their father and his brother were members of Sigma Alpha Epsilon. Marnie and Walter traveled to forty some countries emphasizing those where agriculture was an important industry for Walter founded and was president for 17 years of the National Corn Growers Association which in 1990 had 25000 members. He also was chairman of the formation committee and the first president of the U.S. Feed Grain Council and its first president which has offices in Europe and the Far East. Marnie was active in the Iowa Children and Family Services and served as county representative for several years. She was county chairman for two years of the Red Cross and served on its board for a number of years. She served on the selection committee of the American Field Service and was a founder first president and lifetime member of the board of the Boone County Humane Society.
Marjorie Beam Woods graduated from Ames High School and from Iowa State College in 1925. She was the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Frank Beam an Ames dentist. She and her sister Dorothy were members of Iowa Gama Pi Beta Phi. She married Manford Woods who was a member of Alpha Tau Omega at Iowa State College from which he also graduated in 1925. He also received a degree from Harvard Business College. They lived all their married life in California where they moved to from Cambridge Massachusetts. They were both active in community activities. They had two sons Charles of Julian and Theodore of Mission Hills California. Manford died in 1967. Marjory died March 15 1995.
Esther Cruikshank Woods graduated from Boone High School and from Iowa State College in 1936. She and her sister Jean Cruikshank Kline were Iowa Gama Pi Beta Phi members. Both girls attended Stephens College in Columbia Missouri. Esther married Keith McNeill Woods a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon who also graduated from ISC in 1936. They lived in California where they were involved in farming in the Imperial Valley in mining and in real estate. They had one daughter Melinda Magana. 2/9/95
