Elizabeth Sterling Robinson (1903-1982) was born on a farm near Binghamton, NY. While still a child, her parents sent her to live with an aunt on Staten Island, NY so that she could receive a good education. After graduating from high school she attended Hunter College and Columbia University. She returned to Staten Island as a high school teacher until she married in 1934. She raised two sons.
In the 1950s she became a founder of the first community mental health center on Staten Island. During the second half of her life, she was tirelessly involved in this and several other long term service projects in the Staten Island community. In these activities and within her family, she engaged life with intelligence, concern for others, and a positive attitude that lifted the spirits of all those who knew her.
