The staff of Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa wishes to honor Jill June, PPGI president, by sponsoring a brick in the Plaza of Heroines. She is being honored for her unfailing dedication to reproductive rights and the delivery of high-quality, low-cost health care--especially on behalf of young women and low-income women.
Ms. June joined Planned Parenthood of Greater Iowa as president in 1985. Her vision for PPGI has created a health care organization that is the largest provider of reproductive health care in Iowa--charting more than 150,000 patient visits a year. Eighty-six Iowa counties now benefit from health care services, educational resources and advocacy programs provided by PPGI clinics in Ames, Cedar Falls, Creston, Des Moines, Fort Dodge, Indianola, Iowa City, Knoxville, Le Mars, Newton, Red Oak, Sioux City, Spencer, Storm Lake and Urbandale.
Planned Parenthood's Education and Training Institute based in Des Moines serves thousands more with conferences and programs that help adults teenagers and pre-teens understand today's sexuality issues. Jill June especially helps the women and families of this state through her involvement in advocacy. She is a recognized leader in the fight for reproductive rights and legislative support for family-planning services. Her efforts and accomplishments have come at the cost of harassment from anti-choice criminals. Yet she continues to fight for those who cannot fight for themselves.
Prior to joining Planned Parenthood, Ms. June's career shows a continued commitment to women and children. She served as the executive director for the Family Planning Council of Iowa, a non-profit statewide funding umbrella for reproductive health care services. She also worked in the day care field in Story County. Many individuals and organizations recognize Jill June's contributions to Iowa and the country. She has served on the National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association Board of Directors and has been appointed to committees and task forces by the Governor of Iowa, Senator Tom Harkin Iowa State University, the Iowa Department of Human Services and Planned Parenthood Federation of America's national and regional offices.
Ms. June received the "Woman of the Year" award from the Iowa Women's Political Caucus. Her staff members are proud to salute her with this inclusion in the Plaza of Heroines and look forward to her continued leadership on behalf of the women and families of Iowa.
