Janet M. Supernois (Payer) was born June 26, 1930, in Council Bluffs, Iowa. Her parents were Torrance and Jennie Supernois who lived most of their life in Council Bluffs, IA. Her father was a fireman and also an ardent and excellent baseball player having played semi-pro baseball and basketball for many years. Because of this Janet has always had a strong baseball interest and has been particularly supportive of ISU baseball teams. She has established a scholarship known as Torrance A. Supernois Baseball Scholarship at ISU Foundation.

Janet graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in Council Bluffs, IA. in 1948. She was an excellent student and graduated with a 4.0 average. She was a member of the Iowa Girls State and was elected mayor of Girls State convention in 1951. She was also selected to be one of two delegates from Iowa who attended the Girls Nation convention in Washington DC. In addition she was a state winner of the Elks scholarship and received another trip to Washington as State DAR winner in 1952.

Janet attended Iowa State College commencing Sept. 1948 she was an honors student and received her bachelor's degree in June 1952 in Sociology. She was a member and vice-president of Delta Delta Delta Social Sorority; President of Science Council; a member and President of Barjche Dance Club; an Iowa State cheerleader for 3 years; and participated in many campus activities.

In 1953 she entered graduate school at Iowa State College working on her Masters Degree in Sociology. She taught sociology at Iowa State for 5 years. She married Donald R. Payer Ames Attorney and ISUalumnus in 1953 and they had one daughter Christine A. Hunziker and one son Patrick T. Payer and also two grandchildren. Later she received a Masters Degree in Social Work from the University of Iowa in 1978. She worked at the Iowa Department of Human Services in Des Moines for 10 years as a staff member of the Planning and Mental Health Divisions. She retired in 1989.

Janet was active in the Republican Party serving as Co-Chair of Story County Republican Central Committee in the 60's and President of the 5th District Republican Women. She was also a delegate to county district and state Republican conventions. She is a member of St. John's Episcopal Church where she has been active for many years. Her hobbies are gardening, tennis, and ballroom dancing.
