Ann Walters Harrison is a granddaughter of Charles and Nellie Caltrider Whetstone. Her mother Faye Eloise was the one daughter that did not attend college. Faye married Robert Walters in the fall when she was to go to Iowa State College. They farmed near Casey from 1935 until Faye's death in 1983. Faye loved her home family and garden.
Elizabeth Ann born in 1939 was the only child of Robert and Faye. She graduated from Iowa State in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics Education. Her mother and father were anxious to have her complete her college education and to use her degree in employment. Following one year in Chisholm, Minnesota as a home economics teacher Ann was employed as Benton County Extension Home Economist at Vinton, Iowa.
Robert Harrison and Ann were married in 1964. Robert was vice-president of McDowell's Inc. a retail lumber and building company in Vinton. Always with support from her husband Ann continued her ISU Extension employment. She completed her Master of Science degree in 1974. Her positions with Extension changed over the years including Housing leader in her area two county home economist area home economics team leader and finally Area Extension Education Director for East Central Iowa for 13 counties. With 33 years of employment completed Ann retired in September 1994.
Outdoor and nature activities are the main interests of Bob and Ann. Ann's mother Faye helped early to spark Ann's interest in nature and to appreciate the beauty of our world.
