Arlene Peterschmidt Benson, a native of West Point Lee County, Iowa, was graduated from Marycrest College (BA 1944) and from Iowa State University (MS 1970). She taught at both the secondary and Community College levels in Iowa for 30 years as a teacher of English and as a counselor.
She contributed constructively to her community (Marshalltown), to her church (Catholic), and to the nation on local, state, and national councils of education.
Married to Wendell R. Benson, the couple reared five children, all of whom are graduates of Iowa State University. They are Constance (Mrs. James) Stansberry, David W.Benson, Daniel H. Benson, Carol Marie (Mrs. Michael) Maiden, and John F. Benson.
Born in a depression and nurtured by war, hers has been a life of service to those around her. 7/1/96
