Barbara Ann Highland Herum

Barbara Ann Highland Herum was born in Fort Dodge, the daughter of Floyd and Melva Herum. She attended schools in Columbus, Ohio and graduated from Upper Arlington High School in 1975. She received a bachelor’s degree in international studies from Ohio State University, a bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla, and a master’s degree in environmental engineering from Iowa State University. Ms. Herum was pursuing a doctorate in environmental engineering at ISU. She was employed as a petroleum engineer on both off-shore and on-shore drilling rigs. Ms. Herum also operated a cross-stitch pattern company Comp-U-Stitch with her sister.

Barbara died of cancer at the age of 39. Survivors include her parents of Fort Dodge; one brother Robert Herum of Columbus; one sister Donna Herum of Newburgh, Ind.; and her dog Samantha.
