Barbara Blumenschein Stam, Home Management 1959, has maintained her interest in family counseling, both as a professional financial counselor and as a volunteer through the Cooperative Extension Service of the University of Maryland. She has established a long-term relationship with the Afghan family adopted by her church, and is a Stephens minister. Beginning with an Applied Art course at Iowa State, she has developed designing and weaving skills on the cherrywood loom inherited from her grandmother, winning several blue ribbons in the Maryland State Fair.

Though she has been through the years a dedicated homemaker (creating a congenial home, gardening, cooking, freezing, canning, developing budgets and keeping financial records), her deepest joys and responsibilities have come from guiding her three children (including twins) into adulthood.

Barbara is a sunny, gentle person who loves the out- doors, is an avid birdwatcher, looks for the bright side and shares it. We honor her for achieving a steadying life of beauty in today's restless world.
