Carolyn (Carol) Berg Grant

I am honoring my wife, Carol Berg Grant, mother of three children; Sarah Grant, Catherine Grant Malliet and James M. Grant. She is the grandmother of seven: Rachel Rebecca, Hannah Hutchison, Alex and Natalie Malliet, and Elizabeth and Lauren Grant. Carol grew up in Council Bluffs, IA and graduated from Iowa State College in 1952 with a degree in Home Economics.

She married John A. Grant in 1952 and they returned to Ames where John was affiliated with McFarland Clinic in Orthopedic Surgery until his retirement in 1994. Carol has been involved as a professional community volunteer with Mary Greeley Hospital Camp Fire Octagon Center for the Arts Youth and Shelter Services University Museums and the Ames Community Schools. She was a trained tutor for 12 years, working with dyslexic children in reading and spelling. Carol was elected to three terms serving from 1972-1981 on the Ames School Board.

Business: Golden Hanger, a women's clothing business, 1976 to present.

Service to Iowa State University on numerous committees, including renovation and redecorating of The Knoll, the president's home.

Membership: Iowa State University Foundation, University Museums, Youth and Shelter Services Foundation, Octagon Center for the Arts, Chapter LN of PEO, Pi Beta Phi, Questers, Mary Greeley Hospital Auxiliary and Ames Heritage Association.
