Beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. Born in Gillespie, Illinois, July 19, 1912 she grew to maturity in Boone Iowa where she was graduated from high school and worked as an accountant for a small grocery-store chain until she married John D. (Jack) Shelley and moved to Des Moines.
She was the mother of two sons, John F. Shelley and Stephen D. Shelley and the grandmother of four: John S., Joseph, Michael, and Kate Shelley.
After 30 years as a socially-active homemaker in Des Moines, Catherine moved to Ames when her husband became a professor of Journalism and Mass Communication at Iowa State University. She was active in the Faculty Women's Club and Saint John's Episcopal Church and continued her longtime interest in the Boone County Historical Society. She died in Ames on September 25, 1993 at the age of 81, and is lovingly remembered by her family and friends.
