For her interest and contributions to Seed Technology.

Catherine began her career in seed testing at the Iowa State University Seed Testing Laboratory located on the top floor of this building then known as Old Botany. Catherine was trained by Dr. Leroy Everson director of the laboratory and Bonnie Jenkins seed analyst.

Pursuing her interests in seed testing Catherine applied for membership in the Society of Commerical Seed Technologists (SCST) completed the certification examination in 1976 and qualified as a Registered Seed Technologist (RST) of the Society a high achievement among commerical seed analysts. The "Reports of Analysis" issued by RST's are used to support the movement and sale of seed through both domestic and international seed trade. The science of seed testing the ultimate purpose of which is to determine the value of seed for planting is an important aid to agriculture and the seed industry.

Catherine served on the Executive Board of SCST for eight years including holding offices of Vice-president and President as well as supporting the Society through committee service and research activities.
