Corly J. Brooke

As a tribute to a wonderful boss and mentor, we the staff of the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching are proud to honor her with this brick. Dr. Brooke is not only a dedicated scholar and teacher, but a mentor, friend, and inspiration to us as well as the many students she has nurtured over her 31 years at Iowa State University.

Her greatest accomplishment in her own words:

"When you teach a really large class, you don't know the impact that you are having on learning. I am always gratified with individual interactions with students who are willing to share how the course has helped them. I like to know how I have made a difference to students."

Her impact on learning has spanned the university since she became director of the Center for Excellence in Learning and Teaching in 1998. As the recipient of many Iowa State University awards and recognitions, including the Presidential Service Award in 1997, Corly has shared her experience and expertise across campus in many ways. Her development and implementation of innovative programming to promote the scholarship of teaching and providing resources to facilitate improved learner outcomes is a key element of her role as director of CELT.

Equally important is her effort to foster the development of communities of faculty, students, and staff that support effective teaching initiatives. Corly inspires excellence in all of us, both personally and professionally. This brick represents her strength and commitment toward enriching our lives as well as the lives of others.

Thanks, Corly, for being a role model.
