Corrine Smith Englehart was born April 14, 1923 at Clark, South Dakota, the second child of Joseph and Marie Smith. In 1936 her parents moved to Dow City, Iowa, where she attended grade and high school.

Corrine enrolled at Iowa State in 1941 and graduated in 1945. While at Iowa State she had the following honors and activities:
