Dawn was one of the first two nurse-midwives to set up practice at McFarland Clinic in Ames Iowa. Dawn is an Ames native graduating from Ames High in 1974 and attending ISU. She obtained an ADN degree from Des Moines Area Community College practicing as an RN in Eldora Muscatine and Ames. In 1992 she obtained a BSN degree from Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa.
In 1994 she graduated from Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing in Hyden Kentucky and also from Case Western Reserve University Cleveland Ohio with a MSN. Obstetric nursing has always been Dawn's first love and nurse-midwifery became a natural extension into advanced practice nursing. Feeling that women of Ames would be receptive to nurse-midwifery care Mary Greeley Medical Center and McFarland Clinic jointly supported the establishment of this service. The word "midwife" means "with woman." It is with the establishment of this service that a new choice in obstetric care is available to the women of Ames and the surrounding communities.
