I would like to honor my mother, Diane Nitschke, for the love and caring she shows. Mom always makes the special occasions in your life that much more special. Birthdays, Christmases, graduations, weddings and anniversaries always had her special touch. While any celebration can be big, Mom makes it extra special with the thoughtful touches that make the day uniquely yours. It takes a lot of love effort and imagination to make an event something to treasure.
One of the more talked about events happened the day of my wedding. Most of the relatives from both sides had arrived the night before and were staying in the same hotel. Nothing was planned for the morning and afternoon while my wife and I were dealing with last-minute arrangements. Mom, however, had come prepared! She brought a lot of food down, opened up the room, and a party was born. This was a great opportunity to meet and get to know the new in-laws. Mom's party was a big hit. Everyone had a good time and that made my day even more special.
I also admire her because of the professional commitment she demonstrates. While growing up in Decorah, I had many opportunities to witness my mother's dedication to her work. She works for a government agency that helps people with education and employment opportunities. It is a unique and ongoing challenge to stay on top of the ever-changing governmental rules and statutes, and no one tackles them better than Mom. However, I was never more proud than the day I heard that Iowa was the best in the country, her region was the best in the state, and that she was the best in her region!
She has given many people a fighting chance to improve their lives through her work. Whether in her work, during family milestones, or caring for an ailing relative or friend her love, caring and commitment shine through.
