Diane has served the Glendale Unified School District as an elementary school principal for 23 years.

As a highly knowledgeable leader in the field of education, Diane has brought two of these schools under her leadership to a ranking of "Exemplary School" in Los Angeles County. A strong, sensitive and compassionate leader, Diane instills in both staff and students the highest standard of excellence. As a role mode of professionalism, she repeatedly encourages and supports each person with whom she comes in contact to continue learning, growing and maturing into the very best individual possible. Ever ready to guide and support the school staff, she is a constant inspiration who never seems to get "rattled." A pro-active rather than a reactive force, she is always accessible to students and parents, energetic, innovative and sensible. Diane is realistic in her approach to complex problems and has a genuine sense of justice and fairness, giving each person an equal opportunity. A champion of children, Diane is dedicated to the well-being of each child under her care. With her pleasant disposition and good sense of humor, she brings a positive attitude into the workplace on a daily basis.

Diane is an excellent mentor as well as a willing learner. She is a collaborator when appropriate and a Leader when necessary. In the words of her staff “She is an A+ boss!" Diane Hawley is being honored in the Plaza of Heroines by her entire staff of Balboa Elementary School - Glendale, California on March 31, 1995!
