Dorothy DeLong Henning (1918-1985) made homemaking her art and her career. From the Iowa farm where she was born; to the small rural town where she raised a family; to rural Africa where she taught knitting and sewing; to metropolitan Des Moines where she retired; she believed in the importance of family community education and nature. She chose the traditional roles of wife and mother yet supported other women including her daughters in their choices of less traditional paths. By her example she showed how a vocation freely chosen becomes an art when carried out with competence and love.
