Eileen Hohenstein, born Eileen Nelson in 1938, was one of the first in her family to attend college, receiving a bachelor's degree in Education from the University of South Dakota. She has many ties to Iowa State University. Two of her three sons attended Iowa State University; the third attended Ohio State University, possibly due to a spelling error on his application. Note: she is certainly quite proud of all three sons, as her eldest son attended the United States Naval Academy for his undergraduate degree and received his PhD from Ohio State University.
She cherished her grandchildren, and with another grandchild walking the campus of Iowa State University, we found it appropriate to honor her with a brick on the Plaza of Heroines. Eileen was a remarkable woman and a positive influence on her children and their families, as well as all the friends and acquaintances she met over her blessed life.
