Elizabeth Rosalie (Buresh) Beran was born November 24, 1903 in rural Riceville, Iowa. Following graduation from Riceville High School, she taught rural school from 1923-26. She married John Beran in September 1926 and moved to a farm home where they lived and farmed for 60 years. They have three children--George, John and Joanne--and ten grandchildren--Bruce, Anne and George S. Beran, children of George and Jan Beran; Mark, Beth and Gail Beran, children of John and Carolyn Beran; and Edith, Kenneth, Donna and Beverly Tonjes, children of Joanne and Edward Tonjes. By 1995 the family had increased to include eight great-grandchildren.

Elizabeth loves homemaking and did the ordinary with extra-ordinary care. She was a long-time Sunday School teacher in the Saratoga Presbyterian Church and has many friends. She and her husband have celebrated 69 years of happy life together.
