My mother, Elizabeth Schlesser Pochop, of Struble, Iowa is a natural teacher. She taught for many years in one room country schools. When my sister and I were young we were praised for the results of our attempts at art, writing, music, baking and business (and I do use tose words loosely!) We were provided an environment to imagine, explore, create and entertain ourselves. Because we were encouraged at a young age we continued to try and to learn as we grew.
As I now complete my Masters in Nutrition at Iowa State University I again recognize that my mother’s support - intellectually, emotionally, spiritually and financially - has made my education possible. I honor her as a woman of strength, grace and vision who continues to freely share these attributes with others.
