Born and raised in Clay County, Iowa she taught school in order to have money to attend ISC. Though she dreamed of being a missionary, she decided to marry after two years at ISU (then ISC) and spent the rest of her life on a Muscatine County farm near Wilton, Iowa. Her interest in church work continued throughout her life. A devoted wife and mother of three children she was also a leader in many community and county activities including 4-H and other Extension activities.
