Emmalee Jensen Jacobs was born July 8, 1997. From early on, it was clear that she was blessed with many talents.
Emmalee possessed a passion for learning and excelled at many things, but was especially gifted in mathematics and loved to read. She was on CPU’s Math Competition Team and also participated in Show Choir and Volleyball. She graduated as co-valedictorian of her 2015 graduating class at Center Point-Urbana High School with a 4.0 grade point average and was a recipient of KWWL’s Best of the Class for 2015.
In addition to being brilliant and beautiful, she loved kids and they loved her. She worked in the nursery at church and the before and after school program at CPU as well as made wonderful memories with her cousins. Her kind heart and disposition was a natural draw not just to kids but to classmates as well. She was shy, but once you got to know her, you saw her wonderful sense of humor.
After high school, Emmalee continued her education at Iowa State University College of Business, considering a major in Supply Chain Management. With her vast potential she was well on her way to making a difference – in the business world and in the lives around her. Tragically, on December 14, 2015 on the way to her first college final, she was struck and killed in a hit-and-run accident.
We are all better off for the impact that Emmalee made on each one of our lives. Based on her early years, there is no doubt that she would have continued to make many positive contributions to family, to friends and to her community. Her impact continues to be felt through numerous scholarships in her name, a church nursery named after her, numerous memorial benches and trees as well as countless books donated to the four school libraries and the local library.
We would have all loved to have seen how her story unfolded, but in her honor, let’s keep her memory alive by continuing to learn and brightening the lives of those around us until we can meet up with her again in heaven.
