While serving as an excellent homemaker and on various Iowa State University committees, Mrs. Stebbins still found time to earn the MS degree in Institution Management from Iowa State in 1954.

Later the family moved to Houghton, Michigan where her husband had a position with Michigan Technological University. The contiguous community of Hancock was seeking a person to initiate a school lunch program for the district. Mrs. Stebbins was hired for the position.

This was the first school lunch program for the district. She had to find some space within the building, lay out the floor plan, order the equipment and oversee the installation. Then she had to interview and hire the personnel, prepare the menus, and oversee the preparation of the meals and the operation of the dining area. Later, this included transporting prepared meals to a satellite school.

In all the operations, she had an outstanding record. She was very popular with the staff members and administrative personnel of Michigan Technological University. She was also an excellent mother housewife and companion. The community lost a great citizen when cancer took her life in 1973.
