Gamma Phi Beta was originally founded November 11, 1874, at Syracuse University. The objective of the sorority was to develop the highest type of womanhood through education, social life, and service to country and humanity. On December 21, 1918, the Omega Chapter of Gamma Phi Beta was founded here at Iowa State University. Since its founding, its members have been dedicated to supporting each other's scholastic efforts, serving the Ames community and Iowa State University, and learning social skills necessary for women in today's world.
