Her family chose to honor Harriet Coleman Patterson for being an example of the many women graduates of Iowa State University. She taught Vocational Home Economics before and after her marriage until the arrival of her family. She then used her education to make a difference in the lives of her family, her friends, and her community. She led the Camp Fire work of both her daughters' groups and served on the district board for several years. She was on the initial board that started Meals on Wheels in Ames over 25 years ago and still continues to volunteer delivering the meals. She used her education to add to the family income from time to time. She remains loyal to Iowa State and already has two daughters, two son-in-laws, and a brother with degrees from Iowa State. Hopefully, she'll even have a grandson or two with Iowa State connections.

It seems only fitting she should be included in this project.
