Mrs. Beatty was born May 25, 1907 in Afton, IA to Harry R. and Bertha P. (Chamberlain) Maneely. She graduated from Afton High School in 1925 and Iowa State University in 1931 with a degree in home economics. She taught home economics in Allerton Menlo and Guthrie Center. She married Dr. Howard G. Beatty in Afton on October 17, 1935 and they resided in Creston, IA from then until her death. She survived accidents and illnesses of advanced years before suffering a massive fatal coronary attack February 1, 1994.

As a physician's wife, she did not complain about delayed and interrupted meals or night's sleep. To curious questions about my patients she would reply, "I really can't say." She was a 50-year member of Alpha Delta Pi and Vesta Chapter No. 233, Order of the Eastern Star, president of the Gibson Memorial Library Board, and Creston Woman's Club, and a member of the Progressive Chautauqua Study Group. She was a group leader in City Girl's 4-H and Rainbow's for Girls. Member of the City Library Board 1964-88, most of that as President.

Helen Lucile Beatty died February 1, 1994 at Greater Community Hospital. Survivors include her husband Dr. Howard G. Beatty of Creston; a daughter Jeanie (husband Gene) Holmes of Norwalk; a son Bruce H. (wife Sandra) Beatty of Neola; four grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Neva Collins of Russellville Ark. She was preceded in death by a brother Dr. Donald K Maneely.
