Jane B. Rasmussen, 56, died February 22, 2004, at her home in Madison, Wisconsin, following a long courageous battle with breast cancer.

She was born Jane Louise Breckenfelder on October 23, 1947, in Muscatine, lA, to E. H. "Breck" and Betty Breckenfelder, the oldest of five children. Following graduation from Muscatine High School in 1965, Jane attended Iowa State University, graduating with honors in 1969 with a Bachelor of Arts in French. While at Iowa State, Jane was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority and was initiated into Mortar Board.

Jane married Steven A. Rasmussen of Madison, Wisconsin on January 4, 1975. They had two children: Nicholas Grant Rasmussen and Elizabeth Merritt Rasmussen. Jane lived her entire married life in Madison and worked as project manager for CUNA Mutual. She was active in Madison Westside Rotary, Quigleys, Bethel Lutheran Church's Celebration Circle, The Business Forum, and The Garden Plotters Perennial Garden.

An avid traveler, gardener, photographer, and cook, Jane will be remembered for her love of family her organizational, abilities and her extraordinary sense of humor. Jane was a ready and unselfish helper to all who knew her. When she heard that a friend or acquaintance needed assistance of any kind, she gave of her time and talent to make them feel comfortable and secure.

We are proud to honor our sister with a brick in front of Iowa State University's Carrie Chapman Catt Hall. Jane made a beautiful difference in the lives of those she touched. She was our heroine in every sense of the word, and she will continue to inspire us to live life fully and generously.
