Harry Truman once said that one "cannot leave a better lagacy to the world than an educated family." Throughout her life Jane Farrell has valued education and encouraged the academic achievements of her family. Emma Jane Haselton was born on January 3, 1930 in Omaha, Nebraska. She followed three brothers to ISU graduating in 1951 with a BS degree in Home Economics. She served as president of the Alpha Epsilon chapter of Sigma Kappa Sorority. She married Robert E. Together they raised five children: Bob (BS Computer Engineering MS Computer Science) Sue (AB Histrory and English MBA) Pat (BS MS PhD Mechanical Engineering) Kate (BS Industrial Engineering MBA) and Anne (BS Industrial Engineering MBA). During her married life she was primarily a homemaker but she also worked in the test kitchen at Sears in Chicago and as a computer programmer at Chevrolet Motors in Detroit.
Her hobbies include genealogy, sewing and quilting, bridge, reading and travel. She is a devout Catholic whose faith is the center of her life and apparent in all she does. We her children wish to honor her on her 75th birthday for encouraging us to pursue our dreams.
