Janet Murray Fiske

Janet Murray was born in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on November 23, 1912. She graduated cum laude from Coe College in 1934. Janet taught school in Troy Mills, IA from 1934-35; taught English in Le College du Jeune Fille from 1935-36 in Neufchateaux, France. She also taught at Tenacre Wellesley Mass from 1937-38. Janet received an MA in Romance Languages from Columbia University in 1940.

She and her husband, John C. Fiske, were at IAS, then at ISU from 1951-55. She and John were with the U. S. Information Service from 1955-1970 in Bangladesh, Germany, the Congo, Iceland and the U.S. She and Professor Fiske live now in Moscow, ID. They have four grown children and seven grandchildren.
