Janice Bennett Becker graduated from Iowa State University with a B.S. degree in Community Nutrition in 1962. As a registered dietitian and Iowa licensed, she has been Involved as a School of Nursing nutrition instructor, a clinical dietitian, a renal dietitian, and a consulting dietitian. She has held most of the offices and committee chairs in the Mississippi Valley Dietetic Association and organized the first Iowa/Illinois Joint State Fall Assembly.

In 1988 Janice was named the MVDA and the Iowa Dietetic Association Outstanding Dietitian of the Year. The first year both organizations gave such an honor.

Janice keeps herself in shape through proper diet, exercise in the form of walking and biking as well as yard work and walking stairs. She encourages others to do likewise. One of her outstanding attributes is getting others involved and stimulated to do or to make changes in their life that will benefit them and/or society.

Her community involvements have included being secretary and interviewer the 20 years that H.O.M.E. INC. of Scott Co. existed to help low income families into home ownership. She has been secretary an the Board of Directors of Friends of Chamber Music, was involved with the PTA for a few years while her son was in school, and did tutoring and other volunteer activities in the public school system. In her church she has served in varied leadership positions including Administrative Board and Council, on Ministries chairperson, teaching a young adult Sunday School class for 7 years, leading Bible studies, and President and various other offices for United Methodist Women.
