Married Arthur Kleinschmidt 49 years ago in Fairbanks, Alaska. They raised 2 children who completed college and now have families of their own -- 5 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. Jean completed ISU's degree requirement at age 44. The math requirements at ISU almost kept her from completing her degree requirements in English. She says she was saved by a wonderful teacher (Mr. Ruby). She had met math requirements at the University of Florida where she had completed the first two years of her program. Unfortunately her high school algebra was too limited. Despite this problem her first quarter at ISU resulted in a 3.5 honor point average. After college she taught English at Nevada and Ames. Jean is currently a member of the Board of Directors governing our subdivision. She has just completed a term As Alderman for the town of Combes, Texas.

She has served as a volunteer at the local Medical Center for the past 12 years (4000 hours) and as President of Volunteers for 2 years when they donated $100000 to enhance the educational facilities of the hospital. As President of the Women's Club in our subdivision she has organized and promoted duplicate bridge and other activities to help keep residents active mentally and physically. She is currently responsible for all golf activities on our Par 3 course. Jean has many friends who still live in the Ames area.
