Born 11/12/1925 in Charles City, Iowa
Died 1/22/1971 in Burbank, California

Jeanne Sara Basuk was born in Charles City, Iowa, to immigrant parents from Russia. Growing up in Iowa as a daughter of Jewish immigrants was certainly a challenge for Jeanne and her siblings; however, her family was quite respected in Charles City.

Her father, Oskel, was a successful businessman there. Jeanne graduated college from the University of Iowa, where she met her future husband. She married Sam Heeger in 1949 and moved to California, where she and Sam settled in Burbank, a suburb of Los Angeles. While this seemed like a large community to them, it was similar to Charles City by L.A. standards! They had 3 children: 1 daughter and 2 sons. They became very active in the small Jewish community in Burbank and in this way Jeanne found her home away from home. Jeanne loved her family and community and was very involved in both until she became ill with cancer at the young age of 44. She died at the age of 45, leaving behind a family and community that she loved and that loved her immensely.
