Jeanne Ann Larson Clawson was bom in Des Moines, Iowa on February 17, 1929. She grew up in Slater, Iowa and moved to Ames in time to start her junior year in high school at Ames High and  graduated in 1946. She graduated from Iowa State University in 1950 with a BS in Dietetics. As an undergraduate Jeanne was a member of the Home Economics Council, President of Food and Nutrition Club, Vice-President of Phi Upsilon Omicron, and received the Danforth Award given to the outstanding Home Economics Junior. She was also initiated into several honoraries: Phi Kappa Phi Omicron Nu Phi Upsilon Omicron and Sigma Alpha Iota. Jeanne interned at Indiana University Medical Center in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1951-1952 and served as Chief Administrative Dietitian there. She then accepted the position as Chief Dietitian at Larue Carter Hospital in Indianapolis, Indiana for 1953-1954. In 1954 she returned to Iowa State University to obtain her Master's Degree in Food Science. She received her Master's in 1956 and served as an Assistant Professor in the Food and Nutrition Department at Iowa State University from 1954-1960. During this time she became a member of two graduate women's scientific honoraries: Sigma Delta Epsilon and Iota Sigma Pi.

Jeanne married Robert Clawson on June 5 1960. They have two daughters: Anne and Nancy. Jeanne continued her career in Dietetics while raising a family. She has served as a Consultant Dietitian at various hospitals and nursing homes as Registered Dietitian for Elderbridge as Renal Dietitian at Iowa Lutheran Hospital and as a Consultant Dietitian for the Iowa Department of Elder Affairs. Professionally she has been a member of the American Dietetic Association Secretary of the Indiana Dietetic Association and held many positions in the Iowa Dietetic Association. These include President President-Elect Treasurer Bulletin Editor and Local Arrangements Chairman for the state meeting. Jeanne has also been an active community member. She has served as President Vice- President Secretary and Chaplain of P.E.O. which is an organization helping to provide educational opportunities for women. She has been a teacher organist and council member for her church. The PTA Symphony Board and Cooperative Nursery School Board have also appreciated her organization and leadership. Jeanne is a loyal Iowa State University supporter. She and her husband are members of Order of the Knoll and Lifetime Members of the Iowa State University Alumni Association. Several other family members are also Iowa State graduates: her parents Alma(Kalsem) and Cecil Larson brother Robert Larson husband Robert Clawson aunt Millie Kalsem and daughter Anne (Clawson) Apland. Jeanne's daughter Anne (Clawson) Apland husband Brian Apland and their family have chosen to honor her by including her name in the Plaza of Heroines.
