Joan was born in Grinnell, Iowa in 1925. From a young age her mother encouraged her to discover new things and to experience life to its fullest. Joan was a wonderful musician and pursued a career in that field in Colorado. She played in various orchestras before taking a teaching position in southern Colorado. Joan met my father Joseph Looper at the University of Colorado and they were married after the war in 1946. My mother sacrificed her musical career for a number of years to raise a family of five children.
My mother is the most honest forthright loving caring person I know. It is through her encouragement that I had the courage to leave the big city and start my own business in the small community of Clear Lake. She is a wonderful example of a woman who has had it all and not wasted any of it.
