In 1977 Lieutenant Julia Bentzinger graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Mathematics. Her first duty stations were at the Fleet Antisubmarine Training Center, Norfolk, Virginia, followed by a tour at the Naval Facility, Bermuda. As a Personnel Exchange Program Officer, Julia taught mathematics and computer science at HMS Collingwood in Fareham, England. Lt Bentzinger completed her Naval service on 31 December 1987 while serving as Staff Administrative Officer Training Wing Four, Corpus Christi, Texas.
