Julie Jennings Walter was born Julie Jane Jennings on October 30, 1962 in Des Moines, Iowa to parents Ann Woodard Jennings and Albert Laurence Jennings. She attended Iowa State University for a year and was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. She married David Allan Walter on December 26, 1982. They relocated to Flint, Michigan where Julie earned a degree in Elementary Education from the University of Michigan in 1985.

Julie is very friendly, energetic, capable and caring. These are best exemplified in her family life. Julie and Dave have three sons, Scott Allan, born June 26, 1985, Steven David, born March 6, 1987, and Eric Douglas, born September 29, 1990.

While living in Hutchinson, Minnesota, Julie was very active in the Parent Teacher Organization and Meals on Wheels. She was elected JayCee's Woman of the Year and was appointed to the Task Force for School Development.

Julie remains active in local political issues particularly concerning education and the use of private enterprise in the public forum.

Julie resides in Johnston, Iowa with her family.
