Kathy Shelley was born in St. Paul, Minnesota, and received a B.A. degree in mathematics at the University of Minnesota and an M.S. in business and statistics at the University of Wisconsin. She came to the Statistical Laboratory as a data analyst in 1979 after two years as instructor and research associate at Mississippi State University. She is the wife of Mack Shelley, professor of statistics and political science. As a specialist in data analysis and software development, she has supervised a major part of the Statistical Computing Section's activities. She has also served as mentor for statistics faculty, support staff and graduate students and has given generously of her time to resolve perplexing problems related to new computers and software. Kathy Shelley twice received national awards from Zenith Data Systems for innovative personal computer software development.
