Impact on women in science: 

  • Active nationally as a member from 1983-1992 and as chair from 1989-1991 of the Women Chemists Committee of the American Chemical Society, representing 25,000 women members.
  • Active locally as a member of the ad hoc committee which resulted in establishment of the Program for Women in Science and Engineering at Iowa State, and recipient of that program's Individual Advocacy Award in 1994.
  • Counselor and role model for women graduate and undergraduate students as their professor in chemistry classes and as faculty advisor to Iota Sigma Pi the National Honorary for Women in Chemistry.
