LaDona Heldt was born and raised on farms outside of Yutan, Nebraska. She graduated from high school in 1941. She attended Iowa State University and achieved her bachelors degree in Home Economics Education. She later received her Masters degree from Colorado State.
LaDona started her teaching career in Persia, Iowa. She then taught at Technical High School in Omaha, NE. She advanced to the position of Home Economics Supervisor for Omaha Public Schools. She finished her career at Burke High School in Omaha.
LaDona was very proud of being an "Iowa Stater" in the heart of "Big Red Country"! She spoke fondly of Iowa State and defended their football team many times! She was proud of her degree in home economics and what it represented as a teacher and the standards met. She was a wonderful teacher , and inspired many students and people around her.
Her career became her life long hobby. She was always busy creating counted cross stich, embroidery, crocheting and quilting. Many pieces were donated over the years for St. Johns's Lutheran Church bazaars and auctions. She was an excellent seamstress as well.
LaDona will always be a heroine to her friends, family and students. She touched many lives through her work as a teacher and active member of the Yutan community. Having a brick in her honor at Iowa State is the perfect memorial for a woman who had a deep love for her school and who lived the Golden Rule daily and inspired so many.
