Laura Peaks (1886-1974) was born in Greene, Iowa in 1886. She attended Iowa State Normal School, Cedar Falls, and was teaching in Decorah when she married Ray F. Dunkelberg who had attended Iowa State College in 1908. They raised their family on a farm in Floyd County, Iowa, southwest of Rockford. Their children are Margaret Dunkelberg Pratt (BS '35) Ruth Dunkelberg Oldsen George Hamlin Dunkelberg (BS '37 MS '38) and Mary Dunkelberg Allen. Laura was an early feminist taking great interest in politics and community concerns. She placed a high priority on education and continued to educate herself throughout her life passing this love of learning to her four children and 14 grandchildren.
