Lynne Carey has been a very active member of the Ames/Story County community for many years. Her efforts, passion and caring have impacted the Ames Public Library, KHOI community Radio, Raising Readers, and a community project to elevate local media these represent some of the most current and important of Lynne's community activities, but worth mentioning are Lynne's role in leading the Ames Foundation as a financial steward for the development of the Ames Miracle Field and Park, her involvement in a variety of community diversity programming, her support for progressive political actions and candidates, and serving as a long-time member of the Ames Rotary.

With her great ideas, insightful thought process, lots of energy, and the ability to follow through and turn ideas into reality that she has brought to her role as the assistant director of the Ames Public Library, she has had a huge impact on all aspects of the Library and the Ames community over many years. Her leadership in guiding the development of the new Ames Library building and her ongoing innovative library programming illustrate how Lynne's visions to improve the community have become reality.

Lynne's promotion of inclusiveness and diversity in Library programming, sometimes in the face of adversity, reflects her core values. "She laid the groundwork for establishing the Library as the center of the community," noted Jerri Heid, former Ames Public Library Youth Services Manager.

More recently, Lynne envisioned ways to guide both Raising Readers and KHOI Community Radio through some difficult periods. Both groups are today stronger and more vibrant because of Lynne's leadership.

We are pleased and proud to award the 2024 Making Democracy Work Award to Lynne Carey.
