Margaret (Margie) Morrow Mayfield, daughter of Elizabeth and John Mayfield, was born August 5, 1976, in Pittsburgh, PA, and moved to Ames, IA, at the age of one. Margie expressed early interests in painting and horseback riding, and later in biology and anthropology. Margie was a varsity diver on the Ames High swim team for three years. In the summer of 1993, Margie's aunt took her on an eco-vacation to Jatun Satcha, Ecuador, located in a tropical rain forest on the eastern slope of the Andes Mountains. Margie returned as a volunteer the next summer and has been fascinated with the peoples and biology of the tropical rain forest ever since. Margie is attending Reed College in Portland, OR.
