Marian, the eldest of 8 children, was born March 14, 1924 to Charles and Mildred Brennecke in Marshalltown, Iowa. Her parents were of German and English decent. After completing country school in Lamoille, Iowa, Marian pursued a teacher's certificate at Teacher's College in Cedar Falls, Iowa and Missouri State Teacher's College in Kirksville, Missouri.
Marian taught primary grades for 7 years in Mt. Union, Iowa and married Neil Charles Rasmus, a self-employed farmer in June of 1947. She and Neil raised 4 children, 3 girls and 1 boy, all graduates of Iowa State University (Sherry, John, Paula, and Renita).
In 1972, Marian went back to school at Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa for her BA and Endorsement 81 to teach special education at Northeast Missouri State Teachers College in 1974. She taught an additional 18 years in elementary special education at Mt. Union.
Marian retired in May of 1987 after teaching 25 years in the Mt. Union elementary school. She continues her community service involvement, enjoys gardening and sewing and continues to grow socially and intellectually. Marian's goal in life is to never stop learning.
