1901-1988 As the wife of a farmer and the mother of three she was always busy with her gardens chickens canning sewing and the other usual activities of farm life. When she was widowed at age 48 she became the first official secretary of her church First United Methodist church of Ankeny. For more than 30 years she filled varied positions on the church staff as its membership increased.

She was a charter member of the Ankeny Garden Club and maintained extensive flower gardens around her farm home. These gardens were often included on the tours of the I.S.U. Horticulture extension program. When Iowa winters kept her indoors she developed an expertise in raising African Violets. She enjoyed giving a start of the plants in her garden to any one who was interested. Her plants are in many gardens in Central Iowa today ensuring that her legacy lives on.

This gentle quiet woman did truly enhance the natural beauty of her corner of the world.
